Tornado “Soul Mates” Reunited With Special Memento

Tornado blows couple's picture 100 miles away

Daniel and Jamie Cobb are finding solace in the little things after one of several tornadoes that tore through Illinois destroyed their Washington home on Sunday.

"This terrible storm rolled in and took everything we had," Daniel said. "We huddled in the corner, held each other, and waited the storm out ... until it was over."

Everything the newlyweds owned in their first home is gone, including furniture, pictures and other mementos.

But more than 100 miles away, one of their pictures landed intact, resting in Greg Budd's Joliet yard. Not coincidentally, the picture reads "SOULMATES."

A Facebook post, a common friend and a call to NBC 5 later, the Cobb's were reunited with their picture.

"We don't have very many things, but little things that we have like this is how we will rebuild our lives," Jamie said.

The picture was a treasured Valentine's Day gift that they had hung in their bedroom as a daily reminder of their love.

"I've been looking through the pieces of wood of our furniture and things and thinking about how we can attach this to something so we can hang it in our new house someday," Jamie said.

The newlyweds have certainly been tested with this devastating loss, fighting to get back into their leveled neighborhood and sifting through rubble for items that may not have any monetary worth, but represent a whole lot more than anything money can buy.

"We are lucky to have each other ... soul mates," Daniel said.
