A New York man was arrested in connection to the brutal and random attack of an 81-year-old man on a Bronx sidewalk that was caught on camera.

Police announced Friday that 44-year-old Denroy Anthony, of the Bronx, was arrested and charged with two counts of assault.

The NYPD released the video of the then unidentified man walking up behind the victim, who was just reading a newspaper on Jerome Avenue Thursday. He lifts up his right leg and kicks the elderly man in the small of his back, sending him right to the ground.

Pablo Vargas says he did what he does every Thursday -- he stops to pick up his newspaper. Unfortunately, his latest trip ended with a vicious attack.

Surveillance video shows the suspect stride off -- seemingly talking to himself --- as the victim stays on the ground, several newspaper pages littering the pavement around him. He was taken to a hospital with shoulder and wrist injuries, according to the NYPD.

Vargas says he didn't see anything when he was ambushed from behind.

"I feel good, but the right hand don't feel good," Vargas, who hails from the Dominican Republic but has been a US citizen for the past 40 years, said, adding he did not break anything.

The two men didn't know each other, according to police, and no words were exchanged between them.

Looking at the video, Vargas considers himself lucky, saying it could have been worse.

Attorney information for Anthony was not immediately known.
