Altamont Pass Now Powers Google

Google will be buying its power from the Altamont Pass, according to reports.

Google is buying 43 megawatts capacity from NextEra Energy that will install 370 wind turbines in the windy pass that connects Silicon Valley with the San Joaquin Valley, Bloomberg News reported. NextEra is replacing its older machines that have been considered "hazardous to local birds." The turbines are expected to go online in 2016 and power Google's Mountain View, Calif.-based headquarters.

The announcement came only a day after Apple announced it will spend $850 million to build a Monterey County solar farm to power its headquarters. However, unlike Apple, neither Google nor NextEra are disclosing the price of the agreement.
