The California Secretary of State's office is advising Californians to doublecheck that they're registered to vote.
That's a good idea. A few years ago, after I had moved and missed voting in two local elections (while out covering other elections), I checked and discovered I was no longer registered.
There's even a handy web site to help you doublecheck -- or to register if you need to -- right here.
The site highlights one continuing failure in California: the failure to permit on-line voter registration. You can get the voter registration form on-line, but you still have to print it out and send it in.
Also worth noting: the deadline for registering if you want to vote in this November's election is October 18.
