Brown and Clinton, Under the Microscope

How would you feel if, just before a big job interview, a former competitor of yours showed up? This competitor was a person whom you didn't like much, whom had beaten you out for a big job you wanted 20 years ago. But now, you needed this competitor's support to win the new job. What kind of mixed emotions would you feel? Would you be nervous?

This is Jerry Brown's predicament this weekend.

Bill Clinton, who beat Brown in the bitter 1992 campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, is in California this weekend for two rallies in support of Brown and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, the Democratic nominee for governor. These events hold plenty of perils for Brown and put the difficult relationship between Brown and Clinton in the spotlight. I explain more in a column in The Daily Beast.
