Caught on Camera: Man Lights Fire Inside SF Market

A man started a fire inside a market early Sunday morning in San Francisco, and it was caught on surveillance video.

The owners of Mid City Foods on Geary Street in the city's Tenderloin neighborhood, said a man walked to the back of the store after midnight Sunday, opened rolls of paper towels and lit them on fire before exiting the store.

Employees didn't notice the flames until the fire got going. The owners say they are grateful no one was hurt, and they want the arsonist caught.

"He did it once; he will do it again," Eyad Shqair said. "This time no one dies. Next time might burn the entire building."

The store was closed for cleanup Sunday and reopened Monday.

Anyone who recognizes the man in the video should contact the San Francisco Police Department.
