A Southern California man was arrested after surveillance video showed him apparently intentionally running over his Chihuahua in an alley, then leaving the dog to die, police said.

Michael David Parker, 45, of Hawthorne, was arrested Friday for the killing of the dog named Cow Cow late last month.
Police said they were investigating the discovery of a dog in a trash bag when they acquired surveillance video from an alley near El Segundo Boulevard and Doty Avenue in Hawthorne.

Surveillance video shows a man pulling up in a dark-colored car, opening his trunk, then re-entering the vehicle. Moments later, Cow Cow wanders out in front of the car and is struck by the driver, who had backed up the car before accelerating directly toward the 5-year-old Chihuahua.

"Cow Cow is run completely over," Hawthorne police said in a statement. "The vehicle continues on out of sight."
A nearby resident later discovered the dog's body and placed it in the bag that it was found in.

Parker was identified as the suspect and was arrested at his place of work.
Parker posted bond, police said. He is set to be arraigned on March 25.
