Climber Who Lost Legs to Everest Finally Makes It to Summit 4 Decades Later

"Climbing Mount Everest is my dream," Xia Boyu said last month

A Chinese climber who lost both his legs to frostbite while trying to summit Everest in 1975 finally accomplished the feat on Monday, Reuters reported.

Xia Boyu became the first double amputee to summit the world's tallest mountain from the Nepal side.

"Climbing Mount Everest is my dream," Xia told Agence France Presse last month. "I have to realize it. It also represents a personal challenge, a challenge of fate."

He could be seen on video slowly lifting himself up a ladder on the mountain.
