Facebook and the U.S. Department of Labor are joining forces to connect unemployed workers with companies that are hiring in a new Facebook page, the labor secretary announced today.
The labor department will aggregage all its existing, little-known employment services and tools and place them on a Facebook page, the "Social Jobs Partnership," Labor Secretary Hilda Solis announced today. Facebook will also drive traffic to the site by targeted online public service announcements in the 10 states highest in unemployment, according to the Los Angeles Times. California and Nevada top the list.
"Think of this as a free, online job fair that can be accessed seven days a week, day or night," said Marne Levine, Facebook's vice president of global public policy. "We've brought employers, recruiters, college career services and government agencies together to help the millions of Americans who use Facebook to find jobs."

It may have taken the federal government a while to realize that there are more than 100 million Americans on Facebook, but it certainly seems to be embracing it now. (The Internal Revenue Service has been on Facebook for the last seven months.) If anything, the unemployed may be more active on Facebook, so targeting ads for the jobless on the social network could be a great idea.
