Arizona Cops Accused of Flushing Fetus

Five officers on paid leave after flushing fetus down a toilet

Five Arizona police officers are on paid leave after being accused of flushing a miscarried fetus down a motel room toilet.

The East Valley Tribune reports that four officers responded to an early morning call June 1 about a possible miscarriage at a Motel 6 in Mesa. When they arrived, they discovered a woman, Raeann Bell, 24,  who had miscarried a 12-14 week old fetus that was about four inches long.

A man who was also in the motel room, Allen Coleman, 48, was arrested for several outstanding warrants and drug possession. Bell was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

It wasn't until supervisors looked through the incident report that they pieced together the disturbing details.

Another officer, Lt. Lynn Young,  told the four other officers to flush the fetus down the toilet on a phone call. Two emergency medical technicians and two paramedics also responded to the call and were also in the motel room when Lynn made the call. Lynn and the other officers, Glenn Pearson, Kristen Johnson, Robert Buquo, and Nicolas Webster have all been put on paid administrative leave.

"What occurred here, I have never seen in my life," Mesa Police Chief George Gascón said.

He also said that the case has been forwarded to the Maricopa County prosecutor to determine if any charges will be filed against the officers.

Assistant Mesa Fire Chief Dan Stubbs told the Tribune that he hadn't spoken to the four fire personnel who were also on the scene.

Webster is already under investigation after being videotaped using what may have been excessive force on a man arrested for public urination and jaywalking.
