Google Opens First Android Store Down Under

First there were Apple stores, then Microsoft jumped in with their own single brand stores.

Now Google wants a piece of the action, but instead of making a big splash in New York City or Silicon Valley, their first Android branded store is in Melbourne Australia.

As you would expect, Androidland has a groovy green and white color scheme, and looks more like a kiddies playground than a place for selling sophisticated tech.

The comparison with the cool minimalist aesthetic of an Apple store is pretty striking. Unlike Apple, Android has several vendors to keep happy, so I expect there was some committee-style decision making involved in the design process.

No word on whether Google plans to open any Androidland locations a little closer to home.
