The man behind the deadly attack in Nice, France, climbed into a 19-ton refrigerator truck and traveled about 1.2 miles, leaving at least 84 dead and many more injured following Bastille Day celebrations, NBC News reported.
In just a few minutes, 31-year-old Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhle left people weeping over bodies, lampposts shattered and signs crushed in the streets.
Bouhle drove slowly, maneuvering past a children’s hospital and onto the promenade, which police had closed down for the celebration. Authorities said that’s when he revved the engine and started to run people down.
