Jerry Brown Reaches Into His Friends Deep Pockets

Meg Whitman may be a billionaire funding her own campaign but former governor Jerry Brown has some deep pockets to turn to as well.

The former mayor of Oakland is making a run at the seat currently occupied by a Hollywood made politician.

Now the comparatively low-spending Brown is going to the same town that gave California Arnold Schwarzenegger, to raise money for his campaign.

Hollywood power brokers David Geffen, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Warren Beatty, J.J. Abrams, George Lucas, Robe Reiner and Steven Spielberg are throwing a fundraising reception for Brown. And it costs $5,000 just to get into the event.

Big spenders who put $25,000 get the added bonus of a private reception with Brown himself, which is probably not the exciting for a group that has put on fundraisers for the likes of President Bill Clinton and President Barack Obama.

Still the event will be a far cry from Brown's San Francisco bash last week.
