Hurt, Bacon, Patrick & Stevenson Join Duvall in “Jayne Mansfield's Car”

Billy Bob Thornton is quickly rounding out the cast for first directorial effort in more than a decade, and there's nary a woman in sight.

Joining Robert Duvall in "Jayne Mansfield's Car" is John Hurt, Kevin Bacon, Robert Patrick and Ray Stevenson (so good in "Kill the Irishman"), reported Deadline. Dwight Yoakam and Dennis Quaid had previously been alleged to be cast in the film, but now appear to be out of the picture. Relative unknown John Patrick Amedori ("Gossip Girl," "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World") has been cast in the lead

The film, co-written by Thornton and childhood friend Tom Epperson, is a comedic comedy about a man whose wife runs off to be with another man, leaving him to raise their children alone.

“It’s about a guy in between WWI and WWII who raises a family after his wife left him for an Englishman and moved to England," Duvall told EW in January. "When the wife dies, she asks to be brought back to Alabama to be buried, and at that point the character hasn’t seen her in 20 or 30 years. The two families — her original family she abandoned and her English family — meet and then things get really interesting.”

How Jayne Mansfield (Mariska Hargitay's mom, in case you didn't know) fits into this is unclear--the buxom actress died in a terrible car accident in 1967, so maybe her death somehow comes into play when the two families come together.
