Kathy Bates Recovering From Double Mastectomy

Oscar winner battles cancer for the second time.

Film and television actress Kathy Bates revealed via Twitter Wednesday that she has been battling breast cancer for the past two months.

"Hey all, sorry for the long silence," she tweeted. "I was diagnosed with breast cancer two months ago & am recovering from a double mastectomy."

"Luckily, I don't have to undergo radiation or chemo," Bates told People. "My family call me Kat because I always land on my feet and thankfully this is no exception. ... My doctors have assured me I'm going to be around for a long time. I'm looking forward to getting back to work doing what I love to do."

It's a second cancer fight for Bates, who won a best actress Academy Award in 1991 for her frightening role in "Misery." She revealed in March that she survived ovarian cancer nine years ago.

The actress was most recently seen on television in NBC's  now canceled dramedy "Harry's Law," for which she is nominated for a best actress Emmy.

Proof that she has not lost her sense of humor despite her health concerns, Bates followed up her initial tweet with another to her fans that read: "I don't miss my breasts as much as I miss Harry's Law ;-) Thanks for all the sweet tweets. Y'all kept me going."
