McDonald’s Wants To Be More Like Apple

Those Dollar Menu items sure do add up to a lot of cash for McDonald's.

First Ronald McDonald and company decided to hire 50,000 new employees and now the clown and his big red shoes wants to the Golden Arches to look a little more chrome.

McDonald's says it will invest $1 billion to makeover most of its 14,000 stores across the country by 2015.

The stores will get a more refined, grown up feel to them.

And all of it is modeled after the sleek look and feel of Apple and Starbucks stores.

“We’re not trying to be Apple,” Max Carmona, senior director of U.S. restaurant design for McDonald’s, said. “But we can be inspired by them. When you’re inside an Apple Store, you almost feel like you’re inside an iPad – and you want to stay there. We want people to walk into McDonald’s and have the same feeling.”

The new identity will feature restaurants without the bright red roofs, new more muted colors, new flat screen televisions, the fiberglass tables will be replaced by wooden chairs and tables.

Many of the McDonald's across the country will also be adding a second drive in. The makeover will be the most dramatic in the franchise's 56-year history.
