Military Sexual Assault Reports Up 50 Percent in 2013

The number of sexual assaults reported in the military jumped 50 percent last year over 2012, according to the Defense Department, NBC News reported. The increase is the result of victims becoming more confident in reporting abuse and not from an increase in actual assaults, said the head of the Pentagon's sexual assault prevention programs in a news conference Thursday. Nearly half of those who reported assaults last year were men.
