Mom Madonna Not Tough Enough

Material Mom not happy over pics of teen daughter smoking

As a mom, Madonna needs to be a better disciplinarian.

"I don't think I'm tough enough," the pop megastar admitted in an interview Wednesday on the "Today Show."

Discussing her feelings concerning a recent photograph showing her 15-year-old daughter, Lourdes, puffing on a cigarette, she said, "(I) wasn't very happy. … I think I need to be maybe tougher. It's hard - everyday is a negotiation. But cigarette smoking I'm not very fond of - for anybody."

The singer admitted to smoking in a recent music video, but said she used it as an "accessory" and "just a prop." "There's a difference," she said. "(Lourdes) smoked that cigarette before I did that video."

Madonna, 53, went on to explain about the stress of being, well, Madonna.

"To be a single mother of four and to work as much as I do, with my life in a kind of metaphorical fishbowl, it's pretty challenging," she said. "But so far I have survived with sanity and humor intact."

The material mom was also recently in the headlines when her latest album, "MDMA," suffered the biggest second week sales drop in chart history, falling an unprecedented 86.7 percent.

The entire interview is scheduled to air on "Rock Center with Brian Williams" tonight at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
