Mountain View Nets $30 Million From Google

When your city faces a budget crisis, it's nice to have Google in your back pocket.

The territorial home of Google is getting $30 million from the tech giant. The Wall Street Journal reports that Google will pay the city an upfront fee for a 52-year lease on 9.4 acres of land.

Google will use the land, which the city has been eying for a hotel, to build a new office complex.

The investment comes as Mountain View tries to cose a $2 million budget gap. But Google's money won't necessarily go to close that hole.

How the money will be spent or invested is still being debated by city council members.
