A motorcycle police officer riding as part of President Barack Obama's motorcade to a campaign event in Florida died Sunday after he was struck by a pickup truck, NBC News reported. Palm Beach County Sheriff's spokeswoman Teri Barbera said Officer Bruce St. Laurent was ahead of the motorcade when he was hit by a Ford F-150. The 55-year-old veteran of the Jupiter Police Department was taken to nearby St. Mary's Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Jupiter Police spokesman Sgt. Scott Pascarella said an investigation is ongoing, and no charges have yet been filed against the driver. Obama, who was embarking on the second day of a bus tour through Florida, didn't see the accident but was notified of the officer's death and said "our thoughts and prayers are with the officer's family," according to White House press secretary Jay Carney.
