Police Investigate Rape of UC Berkeley Student at Fraternity

Sigma Phi Epsilon has ceased operations as the assault is being investigated

Berkeley police say they are investigating a rape by two men of a University of California, Berkeley student at a fraternity house.

Berkeley Police spokesman Officer Byron White says the student, a woman, reported being assaulted after midnight Sunday at off-campus fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon.

The fraternity, whose Berkeley house is on the 2700 block of Channing Way, has ceased operations while police investigate, according to a national spokesperson.

White says the victim told investigators the assailants are about 18 years old and that it's not known if they, too, are UC Berkeley students.

White says the victim asked for her information to be kept confidential.
