Post 9/11 What Have We Learned?

Ten years later after the tragedy of 9/11, what has the United States learned?

In his book, "The Long Shadow of 9/11: America's Response to Terrorism," co-author and editor Brian Jenkins analyzes the benefits and the costs of our military intervention, foreign policy, improved security, and what needs to be done to make the United States safer.

"On 9/11, we had no idea how many more 9/11's were in the pipeline. We were dealing with a determined terrorist foe that had attacked us before," Jenkins said. "Had we not taken extraordinary measures, I have no doubt that they would have been determined to carry out another attack on U.S. soil. They are just as determined today."

Jenkins said he believes the U.S. is safer today.

"In so far as safe," said Jenkins, "certainly we devote a great deal of resources to preventing other major terrorist attacks on America soil or Americans abroad."
