Search Expands for Missing AirAsia Flight on Third day

The search area for the missing AirAsia flight QZ8501 had increased from four "sectors" on Monday to seven on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Indonesian Search and Rescue Agency, NBC News reported. At least 30 ships, 15 aircraft and seven helicopters were now involved in the ever-expanding search over the shallow waters of the Java Sea, which, experts say will still be a logistical and technological challenge due to the sea's tidal currents and stormy weather. The AirAsia flight was en route from Indonesia to Singapore and flying at 32,000 feet above the Java Sea on Sunday morning when the jet disappeared from radar. The aircraft had 155 passengers, two pilots, and one engineer and four cabin crew.
