Doctors have successfully tested a brand new “smart bomb” drug on patients with breast cancer, The Associated Press reported. The drug, called T-DM1, delivered a toxic dose to tumor cells while leaving healthy ones alone. "People don't lose their hair, they don't throw up,” said the study's leader, Dr. Kimberly Blackwell of Duke University. “They don't need nausea medicines, they don't need transfusions." Researchers, who will present their findings Sunday at a cancer conference in Chicago, said the treatment seems likely to improve the survival rate, according to AP. After two years, 65 percent of women who received the drug were still alive versus 47 percent in a comparison group who took a standard drug, the study showed. The drug is being developed by Roche Holding.
