Rosie O'Donnell Gets Engaged, Wedding to Be ‘a Long Time in the Future'

The comedian first made the announcement Monday in an interview with People

Rosie O'Donnell is officially engaged to girlfriend Elizabeth Rooney, E! News confirmed.

The comedian first made the announcement Monday in an interview with People, saying they decided it's best for the wedding to be "a long time in the future." At the moment, O'Donnell and Rooney are in a long-distance relationship, with Rooney living in Boston and O'Donnell living with daughter Dax in New York.

The pair does not seem to mind their 23-year age difference.

"I keep telling her I'm too old for her. But she doesn't seem to care... She's like, 'I was in the Army! I put my life on the line every day you think I don't know who I want to date?' I'm like, 'Alright I guess that's true,'" O'Donnell, 56, told People.

O'Donnell first went public with the news of her relationship with the 33-year-old Worcester, Massachusetts, police officer in November 2017 when she visited the Howard Stern Show.

Prior to her relationship with Rooney, the comedian was married to Michelle Rounds, who died in September 2017 of suicide. The pair had divorced in 2015. In a statement following Rounds' death, O'Donnell said she was "saddened to hear about this terrible tragedy. Mental illness is a very serious issue affecting many families." During their relationship, the two adopted their daughter, Dakota, who now goes by Dax.

O'Donnell was also previously married to Kelli Carpenter, with whom she shares four children, ages 4 through 22.
