8 Expelled for Throwing Badminton Matches

Eight female badminton doubles players have been expelled for trying to lose their matches to secure a favorable draw later in the tournament, the World Badminton Federation confirmed on Wednesday. The players involved in the badminton controversy were China's world champions Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang, Indonesia's Greysia Polii and Meiliana Jauhari, and two South Korean pairs: Jung Kyung Eun and Kim Ha-na, and Ha Jung-eun and Kim Min Jung. Spectators at the Wembley Arena hurled abuse and jeers at the players, with some yelling "get off," as the teams deliberately sprayed shots and duffed serves into the net to concede points.
