Tropical Storm Karen Forms in Atlantic as Jerry Continues Route to Bermuda

Karen is the 11th named storm of hurricane season

The National Hurricane Center on Sunday said Tropical Storm Karen has formed in the Atlantic Ocean, leading to warnings for some islands.

The storm system, which has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, is moving west-northwest at 13 mph.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Grenada and its dependencies, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

A tropical storm watch is in effect for the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands.

Karen is forecast to move across the Windward Islands and reach the Caribbean Sea Sunday evening. The storm will approach Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Jerry is moving north-northwest at 10 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. The storm system is about 470 miles south-southwest of Bermuda.

"Interests in Bermuda should monitor the progress of Jerry," the NHC said in a statement. "On the forecast track, the center of Jerry is expected to pass near Bermuda late Tuesday."
