Tunes Meet Tastes at the Los Olivos Jazz and Olive Fest

Spend a spring-sweet afternoon in the Santa Ynez Valley town.

THINGS THAT COMPLEMENT WINE? Ask anybody to name five noshes or experiences that go well with a glass of vino and you're likely to encounter an amazing gamut of goodies. Some people might offer up particularly fragrant cheeses, or fig preserves, or sitting by the ocean, or sipping by moonlight. But sometimes festivals that don't have "wine" in their names also look to the libation for its pair-well character. Take an annual late-spring celebration in Santa Ynez Wine Country, the Jazz and Olive Festival in Los Olivos. Wine doesn't get top billing and yet regular attendees can attest to the fact that some of the region's most lauded makers of grape-good beverages will be there, all to play a happy part in the joyful scene. It's a scene that returns from 1 to 4 p.m. on...

SATURDAY, JUNE 8, so plan your road trip or day trip or overnight getaway to the perfectly quaint and tasting room-laden hamlet now. What can you expect once you're there? Look for 30 wineries to be out and about, chatting up fans, meeting people who haven't yet tried their wines, and lending an effervescent spirit to the day. To match that number, there shall also be "30 different olive-themed dishes prepared by local chefs." And providing the beautiful music for the day will be a host of jazz pros, a splendid soundtrack for a splendid slice of the SYV. A $75 adult ticket includes both vittles and vinos, as well as a glass that will remind you of a lovely day in Los Olivos, long after the 2019 gathering wraps.
