Jodi Arias Escapes Death Penalty With Mistrial

A judge in Phoenix read a note from jurors in the Jodi Arias trial saying they could not reach a unanimous verdict, NBC News reported. The judge declared a mistrial and set a new sentencing date for April 13th. The decision on Thursday removed the death penalty as an option and left Judge Sherry Stephen to decide the 34-year-old's fate. The first jury charged with sentencing her also could not reach a decision. Arias was convicted of first-degree murder in 2013 over the death of Travis Alexander, 30, who was found dead in his home in Mesa.
