Woz Would Like iTunes for Android

In an interview, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak said he would like to see iTunes for Android.

"If you remember, we ported iTunes to Windows. We now addressed 100% of the world's market with this integrated system (iPod/iTunes) and it began the era of Apple that we are now in. So why don't we port iTunes to Android?," he wrote in a Q-and-A discussion on Slashdot. "Did something get closed up? I love Apple products and iTunes and wish it were on my Android products too."

Wozniak said that it wouldn't take much for Apple to license iTunes to Google. "The market shares would probably remain the same, but we consumers would all win."

The problem is, however, that Apple has declared Google and its Android platform Apple Public Enemy No. 1 and seems to have no intention of working with the company. This has been evidenced by the change from Google Maps to Apple Maps on the new iOS 6 -- even though Apple's map app has been deemed an inferior product that made chief executive Tim Cook have to apologize for it.

Most consumers would like Apple and Google to get along better -- allow Google Maps and YouTube on iOS 6, maybe iTunes on Google Play -- but what's best for the consumer unfortunately isn't necessarily what's best for corporate interests.
