Driver in Custody After Car Flies Off Cliff Near Mulholland Drive

The driver of a car that was found overturned in the yard of a Beverly Crest home after it went over a cliff and rolled downhill was taken into custody Friday.

The incident was reported at 8:38 p.m. at 9701 Blantyre Drive, near Mulholland Drive, north of Beverly Hills, according to Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The car went off a cliff and rolled downhill into Brendan Carroll's backyard. Since the engine was steaming and the radio still on, Carroll believed there were victims that needed to be rescued.

Authorities believed the driver may have been ejected. LAFD ground crews searched the area but as of 10 p.m., no one was found and police said an extended search continued with LAPD air operations and police dogs.

Hours later, a man who was believed to be the driver was taken into custody. He was discovered about a mile away from the scene, intoxicated and covered in brush.
