Woman Hospitalized After Gunman Fires Through Apartment Window

Police warned residents to stay indoors as they searched for the shooter

A woman was hospitalized Monday morning after a gunman opened fire through the window of a North Hollywood apartment.

Residents at the apartment complex in the 13000 block of Vanowen Street were warned to remain indoors as officers, including a K-9 unit and helicopter, searched early Monday for the gunman. The attacker was believed to be the victim's ex-boyfriend, according to authorities.

The shooting occurred just before 3 a.m. after an argument, police said. The victim, a woman in her 20s, suffered what police described as "pellet wounds" to the back of the neck and is expected to survive, according to authorities.

She was in stable condition.

LAPD officers were stationed for several blocks from Ethel to Atoll avenues, and Vanowen Street was closed to through traffic. Officers were positioned at the sprawling apartment complex's entrances and exits.

The search was called off later Monday morning. No arrests were reported.

NBC4's Jonathan Lloyd contributed to this report.
