Crying Kids Ban From Pennsylvania Restaurant

Owner claimed children under six can't control their volume

After years of crying, whiny kids at his restaurant, one owner has decided to ban them altogether with the hopes of satisfying complaining customers.

Mike Vuick, owner of McDain's Restaurant and Golf Center in Monroeville, Pa., recently sent an e-mail to customers saying the restaurant is "not a place for young children," reported the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

"Their volume can't be controlled and many, many times they have disturbed other customers," wrote Mike Vuick.

Starting next weekend, children under the age of six are banned from dining at the restaurant.

"Nothing wrong with babies, but the fact is you can't control their volume. And there may be restaurants that prefer to cater to such things, not here," said Vuick to WTAE-4. "I think it's the height of being impolite and selfish and so, therefore, I instituted a policy."

It is legal to ban children from a restaurant, just like it is legal to not serve someone not wearing the proper attire.

But this ban might be driving away many of the McDain's customers.

Diner and mother Stephanie Kelley was a weekly customer at McDain's, but now she won't be able to dine with her 1-year-old son.

She calls the decision "ignorant," but other diners support Vuick's right to ban children although many say they aren't bothered by children.
