An officer and a bystander saved a driver’s life by dragging him away from a burning truck after he crashed in Boyle Heights overnight Wednesday.
They carried out the rescue after the man crashed his white Ford pickup truck into a pole on the 60 Freeway at around midnight, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said. After the crash, the disoriented driver manage to get out of his vehicle, but he was pulled to safety after it burst into flames.
The victim was taken to a hospital, but details regarding his condition were not immediately available. It is unknown what caused the crash, or if the driver had been drinking.
The transition from the southbound 101 Freeway to the southbound 5 Freeway was temporarily closed, but has since reopened.
