Oxnard Teacher Arrested for Misdemeanor Child Annoying

Detectives are looking for more witnesses and potential victims.

An Oxnard High School math teacher has been arrested on suspicion of child annoyance of at least one former student and believe there may be more, police said.

Jorge Arellano, 41, of Oxnard, was arrested at his home on Wednesday a six-month investigation, officials said.

The investigation began in October 2013 after an allegation was made against Arellano involving four female students.

Three of the students informed an Oxnard High School counselor about a concern regarding one of their friends and Arellano.

Police wouldn't provide details.

The teacher has been placed on unpaid leave while the case goes to court.

District officials were aware of the investigation, but were surprised when the suspect was arrested, said district Assistant Superintendent Rocky Valles.

The school district has been in close contact with the Oxnard Police Department and have been told that Arellano is "not to return back to the classroom," Valles said.

Arellano is scheduled to appear in court May 21.
