Two people were killed and two others injured early Wednesday in a multiple-vehicle crash at a Pico Rivera intersection.
Investigators are attempting to determine whether two of the cars were street racing before the head-on collision. The driver of a Ford Fusion veered into oncoming traffic and collided with two pickup trucks at high speed.
The two deceased individuals, who loved ones said were lifelong friends, were in the Ford, which was split in half by the crash.
Authorities said they are looking for the driver of another car seen speeding alongside the Ford.
The deceased individuals died at the scene. The hospitalized victims suffered moderate to minor injuries.
The intersection of Slauson Avenue and Passons Boulevard was shut down for the investigation.
