Assault Rifle, Ammunition Found At Home of Man Arrested in Connection With Pierce College Threat

A 26-year-old man arrested in connection with a social media threat made to Pierce College Thursday had an assault rifle, several rounds of illegal ammunition and illegal high-capacity magazines in his home, investigators said.

Sergio Castanon Jr., a former student of Pierce College, was arrested just before noon, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The threat was reported by two people around 8:20 a.m. and sheriff's deputies were called to the scene to investigate. The campus was closed at the discretion of the president, and students were evacuated.

"It's scary that he could have come here and done a lot of damage," student Nik Fields said. "It's a big open campus."

After Castanon's arrest, the school was reopened around 3:30 p.m.

Castanon was booked on suspicion of criminal threats, possession of high capacity magazines and illegal ammunition.

He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
