Shots Fired After Domestic Disturbance, Fatal Stabbing

Officers fatally shot a man Monday after responding to a domestic violence report in the northern San Fernando Valley.

The report came at about 10:30 a.m. from the 13000 block of Gavina Avenue in Sylmar. Authorities responded to the home after a report of a domestic disturbance involving a mother, two sons and the mother's fiance, officials with the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Neighbors said the man had emerged from the home holding a knife and covered in blood.

"One of the sons ended up attacking, stabbing and ultimately killing the fiance of the mother," LAPD Capt. Todd Chamberlain said.

Officers opened fire after confronting the 29-year-old son, who died at the hospital Monday night, police said.

Neighbor Tom Krohmer said the man did not comply with the officers' orders.

"When he dropped to his knees, he was still cussing and he was crawling toward them, yelling," Krohmer said.

Aerial video showed officers taking a man into custody in front of a home.

Neighbors reported the sound of about five gunshots.
