Garden Grove Standoff Ends With Tear Gas

A man who was wanted for theft and burglary walked out of a Garden Grove home Friday after an hourslong standoff with police ended with tear gas.

Beginning around 8 a.m., SWAT members and police units surrounded around the home located near the 1100 block of Trask Avenue.

The suspect came out after officers threw tear gas at the home after 5 p.m.

Jose Quirino, 29, of Garden Grove, was wanted for burglary and identity theft, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.

Detectives came to the apartment garage where he lives with his father to serve an arrest warrant, but the suspect refused to come out.

The suspect may have been armed.

A woman walked out of the apartment with SWAT officers at around 3 p.m. She was being detained and questioned about her relationship with the suspect. It was unclear whether she was being held hostage.

The suspect faced charges of theft and burglary and possibly faced additional charges for delaying and obstructing officers, officials said.
