Melissa Etheridge says if California won't allow gays to marry, she won't pay her state taxes.
Etheridge writes in a blog on The Daily Beast that if she's not allowed the right to marry under the state constitution, she takes that to mean that she's not a "full citizen," so she doesn't have to pay taxes.
She says there's a lot she can do with the extra "half a million dollars" she'll be saving.
Etheridge has released ten albums in her career. Three of them have gone multi-platinum.
Etheridge is famous as a gay rights activist, having come out publicly as a lesbian in January 1993 at the Triangle Ball, a gay/lesbian celebration of President Bill Clinton's first inauguration.
She is also a committed advocate for environmental issues and in 2006, she toured the US and Canada using biodiesel.
Etheridge had a long-term partnership with Julie Cypher, which made headlines.
