Standoff Ends After Woman Stabs Husband in Pomona Driveway

A 58-year-old woman stabbed her husband and holed up in their home before officers and SWAT coaxed her out Tuesday afternoon, Pomona police said.

The barricade began when the woman stabbed her husband in their driveway before barricading herself in their house in the 200 block of West Arrow Highway at 12:45 p.m., Lieutenant Eddie Vazquez said.

Officers were working to negotiate with her over the phone as they closed off Arrow Highway between Garey and LaVerne avenues around 3:15 p.m.

Her husband was taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition, Vazquez said. He was in surgery as of 5:15 p.m.

Police were asking drivers and residents to avoid the area as they evacuated nearby businesses.

The woman was convinced to surrender by 5:30 p.m., officers said.

She was taken to the hospital with a "minor to moderate" injury, and was to be booked once she was released.
