Family Hopes to Represent Parish at Pope's Visit

Salvador Salgado, his wife Alicia, and their five sons will be traveling to Philadelphia

A Maywood family has an opportunity to represent its parish and see the Pope during his visit to Philadelphia.

Salvador Salgado, his wife Alicia, and their five sons will be traveling to Philadelphia for the World Meeting of Families, where Pope Francis will speak. They were chosen by their parish to represent all the families at St. Rose of Lima in Maywood.

It is a blessing that comes with a large price tag -- nearly $12,000 for the entire Selgado family. It's an out of reach sum for most in the working class city of Maywood, where the median household income is $37,000.

That's why the same parishioners who chose the Salgados to represent them are also raising money to send them by selling homemade food after church services.
