Standoff at Beverly Grove Building Ends With One Dead

A woman and child who had possibly been held by the suspect were able to exit the building.

A man who barricaded himself in a Beverly Grove residential building Wednesday has died.

Los Angeles Police Department officials said they did not fire shots at the man. The circumstances of the man's death were not immediately clear.

Police were called about 4:20 p.m. to the scene in the 600 block of North Edinburgh Avenue, west of Fairfax Avenue and south of Melrose Avenue, according to Los Angeles police Officer Tony Im.

Neighbors said they saw partol officers, SWAT teams and crisis negotiators respond to the building after the man made a phone call threatening to harm himself and those with him.

A woman and child who had possibly been held by the suspect exited the building about 7:30 p.m., according to police and reports from the scene. The man remained in the building despite the release of the hostages.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation served a search warrant for the residence on Tuesday, and the Los Angeles Police Department made an arrest the same day, according to officials.

Neighbors suspect they heard flash bangs and tear gas rounds near the home at 10:42 p.m.
