A man who was wrongly convicted in a 1980 murder, then awarded a $1 million settlement that he invested in a successful business, was killed Tuesday in a scooter crash.
Dewayne McKinney was killed in the crash in Hawaii, authorities said.
McKinney was wrongly convicted in a robbery-murder case at a Burger King in Orange. In 2000, the district attorney obtained his released after the emergence of another suspect.
McKinney was awarded a $1 million settlement from the Orange Police Department. He invested that money in a successfull ATM business in Hawaii.
McKinney was 47 years old.
