One Hospitalized After Assault, Standoff

Residents close to the standoff in La Puente were immediately evacuated.

Two suspects who assaulted and critically injured a man in La Puente barricaded themselves inside of a nearby home, forcing evacuations Monday night, deputies said.

The standoff began around 7 p.m. after a man suffered blunt-force trauma by the two suspects who assaulted the victim in the 13400 block of Moccasin Street. The victim's wife told police she saw two men she recognized as her neighbors attempting to load the victim into a van. When the suspects saw her, they fled. The woman called authoritiesto report the incident, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The suspects then barricaded themselves inside a home in the area. Deputies set up a containment around the home, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Residents close to the standoff were immediately evacuated by authorities. Deputies said no one else was in the barricaded home with the suspects.

The shooting victim was transported to a hospital where he was in "grave" condition, deputies said.

Authorities arrested the suspects around 2:45 a.m. One of the suspects was injured after sustaining dog bites, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The condition of the shooting victim was not known.
