A $50,000 reward was announced Thursday for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person or people responsible for a car-to-car shooting that resulted in the deaths of a motorist and a skateboarder in the Baldwin Hills area earlier this week.
Police responded about 8:30 p.m. Monday to the 4800 block of West Rodeo Place, not far from the intersection of Rodeo Road and Crenshaw Boulevard, and discovered a driver had been shot, according to Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations office. The man -- identified by the coroner's office as Harrison Kristol, 20, of Los Angeles -- died at the scene.
The victim's vehicle struck and killed 22-year-old Laroyice McFarland, police said. He had been riding a skateboard.
As the suspect was speeding away, the vehicle struck and critically injured a male bicyclist at Farmdale Avenue and Exposition Boulevard, police said.
"We just want to reach out to whoever knows something, because this isn't fair to these young kids," the bicyclist's mother, Tiffany Bowen, said at a news conference announcing the reward.
"They were innocent," Bowen said. "They weren't out there getting in trouble. They were minding their own business, and trying to be a positive influence."
Authorities described the suspect's vehicle as a dark gray Kia sedan.
