Robber Punches 70-Year-Old Woman in Face, Takes Off With Purse

Upland police are searching for a robber who punched a 70-year-old woman in the face and took off with her purse Saturday morning.

The assailant approached the victim about 7:50 a.m. as she was walking from her car to her residence in the 1300 block of Shelley Avenue, police said. He attacked and robbed her, then fled.

A few minutes later, the woman’s credit cards were being used at a gas station in Upland and Ontario, police said. Police said they were not able to retrieve surveillance footage from the locations.

The victim suffered moderate injuries to her mouth and teeth, police said.

A family friend of the victim told NBC4 that the woman was in the hospital recovering from her injuries, which includes a broken jaw.

The suspect was described by witnesses as a black male in his 20s, about 5 foot 6 inches tall, weighing about 145 pounds. He had a light complexion and curly hair that was about 2 inches long. He was wearing black shorts, a black shirt and gloves. He was driving a tan or gray 8- to 10-year-old small, four-door vehicle with tinted windows.
