San Bernardino Police Shoot Man After Pursuit

A pursuit ended in a shooting caught on cellphone video in San Bernardino Sunday.

At 3 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department deputies were pursuing a car when it came to a stop in front of the driver's home in the 2800 block of Glenview, Lt. Richard Lawhead of San Bernardino City police said.

Deputies called police for backup.

At one point, the man took out a gun and held it to his head, Lawhead said.

Neighbors disputed that, saying they thought he was trying to hand the gun over.

Shortly thereafter, officers opened fire, saying they feared for their lives as they saw the gun rise.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

The man was taken to the hospital following the shooting. The man had a bullet lodged next to his heart, Lawhead said.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and San Bernardino City police were conducting a joint investigation.
