Orange County to Turn Former Bus Depot Into Homeless Shelter

Orange County supervisors approved turning a former Santa Ana bus terminal into a temporary homeless center, and just hours later the Santa Ana City Council declared homelessness a public health and safety crisis.

The city resolution passed late Tuesday calls for several measures to boost security and maintenance around the Civic Center, where an increasing number of homeless people are congregating.

The resolution also calls for a summit with the county and 33 other cities on the homeless situation and for the cities to adopt a similar resolution encouraging the county to act.
