15-Year-Old Dead Following Santa Ana Shooting: Police

Witnesses described seeing three hooded men and two other men in a dark colored vehicle.

A 15-year-old boy died Sunday after he was wounded in a shooting in a residential neighborhood in Santa Ana, police said.

Family members identified the victim as Isaac Gonzalez, a student at Valley High School.

Officers were dispatched at 11:51 p.m. Saturday to the 2300 block of West Saint Gertrude Place, and found the boy with several gunshot wounds, the Santa Ana Police Department reported.

Paramedics rushed the teen to an area hospital in critical condition where he later died.

"At first I heard three gunshots, but I thought it was fireworks because after the three gun shots it started going really fast," witness Abigail Medrano said.

Gonzalez's family said he wanted to become a professional boxer and couldn't believe his life was cut short.

Witnesses described seeing three hooded men and two other men in a dark colored vehicle.

Santa Ana police said it is now a homicide investigation. They believe the suspects are gang members, but said Gonzalez was not a gang member.

Santa Ana homicide detectives asked anyone with any information regarding the shooting to call them at 714-245-8390.
